The first step in building a Koski Log Home is preparing the logs. The Koski craftsmen use prime red and white pine logs cut during the winter from Upper Michigan and northern Wisconsin forests. They are typically 16-25 inches in diameter, although larger logs are available upon request.


Logs are available in diameters from 12 to 36 inches!

 

Raw logs (left) need to be prepared before being used to build a log home.

The logs are unloaded in Koski's log yard and stored until early spring when temperatures reach above 32 degrees F. At this point the bark is removed from each log using a peeler or bark spud . Afterwards, a fungicide is applied to the log. (Below)
